The Denver card scene
There is more card activity in the Denver metro than in the rest of Colorado combined. Several shops have run continuously for a decade or more, a number of them host weekly Magic and Pokémon nights, and the metro is big enough that a Saturday tournament pulls players in from Greeley to Castle Rock.
That depth cuts both ways. Where there are players there are flippers, and Denver has the most of them. Open any local buy-sell-trade group and you will find accounts that answer every collection post with “paying cash today, I can come to you” inside of five minutes, before a single photo loads. That is not an appraisal. It is a bet that you are in a hurry.
The upside of a deep market is that nothing here is hard to price. Your cards have a public sales history, and in a city this size you have the luxury of getting a second number before you commit to the first.
How selling works when you’re in Denver
Pick where you want to do this first. Almost everywhere in the metro is a short drive from somewhere we already need to be, so you are not being squeezed into our route — a library branch, a police station lobby, a busy coffee shop on a corner you know, in daylight, with people around.
Collections past a few thousand cards need a table and an hour, and a cafe two-top is not that. Tell us the rough size when you reach out and we will book the time for it instead of pretending a closet’s worth of cardboard sorts itself in twenty minutes.
The offer comes before any of that. Send photos — binder pages spread out, holos and slabs one per frame, a guess at how many loose commons are in the box — and you get a written number with the comps attached, so the only thing left to decide at the table is yes or no. Payment happens there, cash or instant transfer.

Common mistakes Denver sellers make
Stopping at the first shop. Because Denver actually has shops, it is easy to walk into the closest one, hear a number, and treat it as the market. A shop is buying to resell at retail off its own shelves, which is a different math problem from what your collection is worth. Take the number as a data point, not a verdict.
Taking store credit without doing the arithmetic. Credit always looks bigger than cash, and with this many shops in reach the temptation is real. Credit only wins if you were going to spend it there at full retail anyway. If you are selling because you are done with the hobby, it is not money.
Posting to the metro groups at 9pm and reading speed as demand. The first three people to message you are usually resellers who already recognized the card in your thumbnail.
Never opening a single sold listing. Ten minutes with eBay’s sold filter tells you whether an offer is in the right neighborhood. Almost everyone who feels cheated later skipped those ten minutes.
